Objects in space
Not a whole lot to say in this edition. My brain is still mush and I can’t concentrate long enough to come up with any sort of deep thoughts or any meaningful insights. I don’t know if my brain is just giving up being creative as I get older or if it’s watching the United States slip into a fascist hellscape and a good 50% of the country doesn’t even care or worse are perfectly OK with it is just weighing me down. Mad props to other Substack writers that are cranking out 1000+ word essays every day or least 3-4 times a week. Maybe that’s their way of coping. Anyway, while trying to come up with a theme for this edition I was looking through my photos to see what jumped out at me. The phrase Objects in Space was in my head from two very different sources: it was the title of my favorite episode of Firefly and the related title of my favorite photograph from my favorite photographer, Lee Miller. Her photo was titled Portrait of Space but it was still in my head while looking. I have taken a couple photos very similar to hers but I was purposely trying to do my take on it when I snapped the photo so I’m not going to include them here and I wanted to go more towards the object side of things. These are all photos from inside various abandoned buildings. Photos picked out while listening to Ethel Cain. Article written while listening to Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Thanks for looking.
